where the elderly when going to the toilet at night felt faint and suffered a fall,leading to a stroke and eventually death. Also,these patients should not over strain themselves when constipated they should use the appropriate medication to assist in the emptying of their bowels, Extremes of weather can also lead to the development of stroke.Therefore these patients should take the necessary precautions.
 4.0n any signs and symptoms of stroke, immediately go to a hospital for acupuncture and medication to prevent the full manifestations of stroke.
  Signs and symptoms of stroke are::pulse is wiry and long (hypertension) pulse is quickly and fainting (signs of cerebral thrombus), swollen tongue, drooping of mouth and eyelids, fingers arenumb, semi-paralysis of body, and movements become unsteady.
5. Strok victims must be treated immediately. Treament principles are to keep the patient calm, do not carry the patient, avoid pulling pushing and turning the patient as this can aggravate the patients condition. It is best to use an ambulance to transfer the patiend to a hospital.Otherwise one should an army stretcher and the patient’s head tilted to one side and the stretcher should be carried level at all times. In cold weather the patient should be kept warm with blankets to prevent additional diseases such as influenza and pneumonia.
6. Stroke patients should preserve peace of mind, avoid extremes of mood such as grief, depression, exhilaration, and anger. Before recovery do not attend parties weddings, funerals,do not smoke,avoid stimulating foods, avoid movies or videos that cause excitement, abstain from sexual activities. Take special care to avoid influenza or other infectious diseases.

三、针灸医治中风        
据可靠的史书记载，中医药，针灸医治中风已有两千余年历史，通过中西医医疗实践证明，针灸，中医药医治中风之疗效已为古今人士所认可。出于慎重的原因，针灸治疗中风此一疗法,尚未能在西方病人中广为流传和广泛应用，为此,对于如何巩固针灸之地位，提高针灸医治中风之疗效，根据个人之体验提出以下见解：
1、在中风之急性期宜及早作针灸治疗，针灸医治中风既可溶解脑血栓，亦能抑脑出血，其根据是：
据文献记载：“对中风之患者在1-3周内作针灸治疗，其有效率为80-96%，三周后针治，其有效率降至53.8%；在用针灸疗法医治中风的众多病例中，尚无一例证明,病人由于针刺治疗而导致脑出血”。我曾在武汉市郊,针灸医治一位54岁中风急性期的农村妇女陈双，患者于1994年8月10日突然中风送入医院，CT检查确诊为大脑右基底节出血破入脑室，因家庭经济困难,入院后5日要求自动出院，于1994年8月23日求治于余，患者病势垂危，左侧肢体瘫痪，不能翻身，大小便失禁。经首次针治后，次日晨手足抬高40厘米；第二次针治后足抬高70厘米，可自由伸屈，手可握拳抬举至胸，并可自行翻身，三日后能自己走路、吃饭、穿衣、洗脸、洗澡、洗衣，到邻居家看电视，生活一切复常。此患者病程仅15日，由于在脑出血的急性期（危险期）及时采用针灸治疗，因而取得显著疗效，为此可以说明，中风之患者宜及早针治，且越快针治其疗效越佳。
2、对中风之患者应作全面治疗，这是因为很多疾病，如高血压、糖尿病、冠心病等均可导致中风，而中风又可并发其它疾患，因此在医治中风之同时应兼治诱发中风的各种疾患,及中风后产生的并发症，这样可大大降低复发率。
针灸医治中风之疗效，与患者病情的轻重，体质之强弱，年龄大小，营养条件，气候变化，病人的情绪和精神状态，首次中风,或再次中风, ,药物的是否有效使用, 以及针灸时机的掌握和医者治疗中风之技术、经验有关,而后两因素为主要因素。
